Least Expensive Troubled Teen Program
The problem with looking for least expensive program
There are a couple of different problems with this thought process. First, parents should want the best care for their child. This does not mean that because it costs more it is better care. It simply means that parents should look at what their child needs. If the child had a medical emergency that required surgery would the parent go to the cheapest surgeon. The next problem with the least expensive programs is the fact that how do they cut corners when it costs other programs more to run the facility and provide proper care. There are a lot of tricks that can be utilized to lower costs but one should not be with less staffing. Working in this field requires a lot of man power and therefore, there should be plenty of people caring for the students. When looking into the programs find out what their true staff ratio is. The last area of concern is that often times programs will get the parents with stating a lower price but failing to mention that are additional costs that could add up to another $1000 to $2000 a month. The other way programs can cost the parents is by being a "warehouse" of kids. This statement means that they keep the kids for a certain matter of time regardless of what progress the child has made. At Red Rock Canyon School, we do not have any definite time measure. We want to help the child and then get them to the least restrictive environment that the child is ready to handle as soon as the child is ready to handle the situation.
