Dr. Suess Family Weekend

Another Family Weekend is in the books and by all accounts is was one of the "smoothest" ever. The Dr. Seuss theme, which was the brainchild of our resident wunderstaff, Nanci, was displayed

nearly everywhere you looked. You saw hints of it in the upstairs gallery of student art work. You saw it served up on your plates at the Saturday night dinner show-green deviled eggs and thick slices of oven baked ham. And you really got an eyeful when you opened the door to the West Hall and were met by giant cut-outs of iconic Dr. Seuss characters parading around on each ofthe walls. Bravo! Nanci and company. When I asked what her June (5-7) FW theme was going to be, she replied, "it's a surprise."

Here's a sample of the comments I received when I asked certain members of our Red Rock family what they liked best about this past FW:

This writer: "The goldfish bowls for centerpieces ... reminds me of what life is like for our Trans students. "

Tami, family coord: "Derek and Mike on Brick did a great job dancing. I did not eat the green eggs.

With the warming spring-like temperatures come a growing number of requests from agencies in and out of St. George asking if our Trans students are available for service of one kind or another. Apparently the record breaking number of volunteer proj ects we did last year has earned us a bit of a reputation.

(But when you go to these activities wearing a safari vest with the words "Have Service-Will Travel" embroidered on the back of it, what do you expect?) Our friends from the Valley of Fire State Park near Lake Mead, Nv. certainly haven't forgotten us. They called the other day and asked if we could come down on the 21 sl to help them do some more landscaping work. Absolutely. (If you picked up one of our 2009 trans calendars while you were here this past weekend, turn to the month of August for a glimpse of what we did there last year. We still have a few calendars left if you'd like to order one. They're $5.00 each).

Our mountain biking program is scheduled to resume as soon as I can get a little more healing in the ligaments in my right wrist. It's been nearly a year since the injury and if you ever get to choose between a bone fracture and a ligament tear, choose the former!

On behalf of everyone here at Red Rock, thank you again for coming to Family Weekend. For you to have made the time, and to have found the means to be here for your child may not seem like a particularly heroic act to either one of you, but don't fool yourself, such are the "little things" that you'll be remembered for, and for which your posterity will one day rise up and call you blessed.

Thanks for clicking-on... Barry
