If you were here for our Christmas family weekend, then you known why I rate our kitchen and the men and women who staff it, "5 Star." I asked Marilyn, our Kitchen Supervisor, if she would recall the menu for those of us, who, like myself were unable to attend, but who are still curious about what we missed. The menu was built around the theme of "Christmas Around the World," which was Nanci's (Art teacher) idea. Weight Watchers, read at your own risk...
Germany: Pot roast (marinated by Chef Adolf for 2 days) with sauerbraten
Persia: Green Salad
Greece: Ambrosia
Mexico: Raphael's Rolls
France: French cut green beans
USA: Boyd's Hawaiian-style punch, Arlene's Alaskan cherry cake, and Marilyn's Utah pumpkin squares
Orient: Mysterious Noodles
I know there's more laudable reasons for coming to these family weekends that for what's on the menu, but at the end of the day when you're feeling drained and "workshopped-out," it's nice to look forward to an edifying experience that does neither.
After catching up with a few of the people who were there for Saturday night's entertainment portion of the program, I asked each of them for their reactions, and this is what they had to say:
Roshi, case manager for the boys, (and newly naturalized U.S. citizen), reported that the highlight of the evening for her was seeing her 3 year old daughter Ava's excitement when Santa Claus made his jolly "Ho! Ho! Ho!" entrance.
Nanci, our Art Teacher, holiday set designer, fab decorator, and the "moving force" behind all of our Family Weekends, said that Ava wasn't the only child thrilled to see Santa's arrival. She also saw some of your "little ones" fall quickly into line to visit with 'ol St. Nick.
Ruben, our Residential Director, and resident MC, remembers the Parent/Child dance off was won by Andrew G. and his mom. When I asked him about the type of dance they danced, and if it was a waltz, he laughed and said, "No, I didn't see any ballroom dancing that night." That was Ruben's polite way of reminding me of what century we're living in. Alas.
All of this to say, you're not going to want to miss what we have planned for our next Family Weekend, March 6th through 8th. See you there!
